After Fire, McCrory Highlights Infrastructure Woes
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Gov. Pat McCrory says a small fire inside a North Caroilna state building exemplifies the challenges his administration face with aging government infrastructure, information technology and security.
McCrory held a news conference Monday at the Administration Building in Raleigh where last Friday's fire occurred.
The administration department secretary and chief information officer said the electrical fire began when an uninterruptible power source overheated and burned computer server wires. State Capitol Police helped extinguish the fire. No one was hurt, but the building had to be evacuated and McCrory said workers lost productivity time.
Chief Information Officer Chris Estes says the closet was poorly ventilated and the 46-year-old building wasn't constructed with today's technology. McCrory says maintenance money must be shored up before new projects are built.
