3 NC Police Officers Arrested In Off-Duty Fracas

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Three off-duty Durham police officers and three others face charges after a fracas involving the alleged theft from a local nightclub of a wallet containing police identification, a coat, and an iPhone.

Durham police said Lt. Ryan Freeman, Officer Stacy Armstrong and Officer Erin Espinola were charged Friday with false imprisonment, assault, and breaking and entering.

Three other adults in their 30s were each charged with assault and misdemeanor breaking and entering. Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said everyone charged knew each other.

Investigators said several people allegedly pushed their way into a Durham residence early Friday morning in an attempt to retrieve the missing property. A man ran from the scene to another Durham home, where he was allegedly assaulted.

Police were called to respond to both locations.
