Former NCSU Coach Sidney Lowe Arrested For Failing To Pay Taxes

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP/WPTF) - Former North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe has been charged with failing to file his state income taxes for three years.
The state Department of Revenue said that Lowe didn't file returns in 2009, 2010 or 2011. They filed three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file a North Carolina tax return against Lowe - who owns a home in Wake Forest - covering the years 2009 through 2011. He was booked at the Wake County jail Monday and released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Lowe was a player on NC State's 1983 NCAA championship team coached by Jim Valvano and coached the Wolfpack for five seasons before resigning in 2011. He never made the NCAA tournament as a coach.
Lowe, 53, is currently an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz. A spokesman says the team was aware of reports about Lowe's arrest but had no comment. Lowe also couldn't be reached for comment, and it wasn't known if he had an attorney.
