NC lawmakers slow pace of bill hitting Obamacare
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The rapid advance of legislation preventing North Carolina from expanding Medicaid with federal funds and managing run an online marketplace for private health insurance is hitting a speed bump.
The state Senate on Tuesday voted to reject changes made in the House. Republicans who run both chambers will appoint a committee to iron out differences.
The bill would reject a Medicaid expansion that would provide health care coverage to an estimated 500,000 residents.
President Barack Obama's health care overhaul promises the federal government will pick up the full cost of expanded Medicaid coverage for the first three years and 90 percent over the long haul. But Republicans are skeptical the federal government would continue paying all or most of the cost.
