NAACP plans new protest, arrests at NC Legislature

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Opponents to the vision of progress offered by North Carolina's Republican leaders say they're stepping up the nonviolent demonstrations until they're heard.

 

The NAACP and other activists say they're ready to be arrested Monday as they protest decisions of the General Assembly. A demonstration last Monday led to 17 activists.

 

The NAACP says GOP lawmakers are wrong for targeting Medicaid, unemployment benefits, the earned income tax credit, voting rights, public education, and the state's pre-kindergarten education program.

 

The North Carolina chapter of the country's oldest civil-rights organization is planning a 15-county tour directed at Republican legislators.
