Firm Disavows Ride From NC State Fair Mishap

RALEIGH, N.C. The Georgia company authorities have described as owning the thrill ride involved in a mishap at the North Carolina State Fair is trying to distance itself from the case.


A lawyer for Family Attractions Amusements, LCC, sent a letter to state officials last month asserting that the Valdosta, Ga., company and owners Dominic and Ruby Macaroni have no connection to the Vortex ride involved in the Oct. 24 incident that seriously injured three members of a Raleigh family. Company lawyer Gregory Brown also contends that those operating the ride at the time were not working for Family Attractions.


The owner's 32-year-old son, Josh Macaroni, faces felony charges after prosecutors say he tampered with safety devices on the Vortex.


The letter was among public documents released Thursday by state officials.
