Bitter Cold Across Much Of North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. It is bitterly cold across much of North Carolina.

The National Weather Service on Friday issued a wind chill warning for the northern mountains of the state.

Forecasters say temperatures as low as 10 below zero could result in wind chills up to 25 below.

A wind chill advisory was in effect in other parts of the mountains for conditions up to 20 below zero.

In the central part of the state, wind chills were expected to range as low as 5 below zero. Near the Virginia state line, wind chills could drop to 15 below zero.

Forecasters also warn of cold conditions along the cost, with wind chill readings just above zero Friday morning.

Low temperatures early Friday ranged from 2 below zero in Boone to 23 in Wilmington.
