NC To Celebrate National Bike To School Day

RALEIGH, N.C. At least 37 schools across North Carolina are encouraging their students and their parents to get on their bikes, strap on their helmets and pedal to class.

Wednesday marks the celebration of National Bike to School Day. The N.C. Department of Transportation said schools from Winston-Salem to Nags Head have registered for the third annual event.

Schools, cities, bicycle groups, public organizations and parents alike are organizing bike rides and bike trains to school to highlight and celebrate using bikes to get to and from school.

More than 1,700 schools across the country participated in last year's event.

National Bike to School Day is coordinated by the National Center for Safe Routes to School as part of National Bike Month, which is led by the League of American Bicyclists.
