Wilson Tire Plant Sees 2nd Minor Fire In 6 Days

WILSON, N.C. (AP) -- A fire has broken out at a tire plant in Wilson for the second time in less than a week.

Authorities said a fire started in duct work of the mixing department at the Bridgestone Americas plant around 6:15 p.m. Saturday. Workers at the plant started fighting the blaze immediately, then firefighters took over, extinguishing the fire in about 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Six days earlier, a small fire broke out in the same department of the plant. Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked both blazes.

The plant has been shut down for a weeklong holiday. Officials say work should be able to be done in other parts of the facility.
