For more than three decades, Carolina radio listeners have received news, information and learned more about the communities where they live from Bruce Ferrell. He started at his hometown radio station in Greenwood, S.C., with a side trip as a weekly newspaper reporter/editor in Abbeville, SC along with stops as a radio reporter and editor in York and Rock Hill, S.C. He also did sports reporting for the Charlotte Observer and regional business reporting the Business Journal of Charlotte.
In 1998, he joined the North Carolina News Network, and became part of the WPTF team when the network was added to the WPTF/Curtis Media Group stable in 2009. He is also managing editor for the combined newsroom for WPTF, NCN and SGRTODAY.com. Along with Newsradio 680 WPTF, he can also be heard on NCN Newscasts and the weekly news roundup on SGRTODAY.com.
A true community journalist, Bruce has done reporting in a wide array of subjects, including politics, economics, tourism, medicine and sports. Bruce has won a number of awards from regional news organizations in both Carolinas, including multiple honors for news reporting and anchoring sports on NCN.
Bruce also enjoys trivia, with specialties in areas such as classic television and game shows. He enjoys the value of a well placed pun, although others in the newsroom may beg to differ.
A graduate of Lander University in Greenwood, SC, Bruce lives in Durham with his wife, Lori where they share a home with children who have “four legs and fur coats,” a dog and two cats.
