Stankoven strikes twice in playoff debut with Carolina as Hurricanes beat Devils

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Logan Stankoven provided an immediate jolt in his first playoff game with the Carolina Hurricanes. The 22-year-old forward scored twice in the second period Sunday to help the Hurricanes beat the New Jersey Devils 4-1 in the opener of their first-round playoff series. It was part of a strong debut that included his work on the Hurricanes’ top defensive forward line with captain Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook. Governor presents Hurricanes’ coach Rod Brind’Amour with North Carolina honor

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour was presented with the state’s highest honor by Gov. Roy Cooper after Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Brind’Amour received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which is given to people who have made significant contributions to the state and their community. Cooper was in the Hurricanes locker room prior to the game to read the starting lineup before returning amid the postgame celebration. TAMPA. Fla. (AP) — Skyler Brind’Amour is looking to make a good impression on the Hurricanes, and his father, coach Rod Brind’Amour. The younger Brind’Amour played in his first NHL game with his father behind the bench in Carolina’s 2-1 preseason victory at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
