Hunter Biden lashes out at George Clooney, other Democrats, over Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign

Hunter Biden lashes out at George Clooney, other Democrats, over Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hunter Biden has criticized prominent Democrats and party advisers in a recent interview. In a podcast published Monday, he expressed frustration over George Clooney’s call for President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race. Hunter Biden questioned Clooney’s authority to undermine his father, who later exited the race after a poor debate performance. He also accused longtime Democratic strategists of profiting from the party without helping its current efforts. As for the disastrous June 2024 debate, Hunter Biden said his father had taken the sleep aide Ambien and was still affected by it.… Continue Reading

Biden has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer

Biden has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Joe Biden’s office says he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The finding came after the 82-year-old reported urinary symptoms, which led doctors to discover a nodule on his prostate. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday, with the cancer cells having spread to the bone. His office said Sunday this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, but the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. Biden and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.… Continue Reading

Biden pardons Fauci, Milley and the Jan. 6 panel. It’s a guard against potential ‘revenge’ by Trump

Biden pardons Fauci, Milley and the Jan. 6 panel. It’s a guard against potential ‘revenge’ by Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump says President Joe Biden’s pardons of Dr. Anthony Fauci and retired Gen. Mark Milley are disgraceful. The Democratic president pardoned Milley, Fauci and members of the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, using the powers of his office in his final hours Monday to guard against potential “revenge” by the incoming Republican. Trump has warned of an enemies list filled with those who’ve crossed him politically or sought to hold him accountable for his attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Trump spoke to NBC on Monday. Fauci and Milley say they appreciate their pardons.… Continue Reading

Biden warns in farewell address that an ‘oligarchy’ of ultrarich in US threatens future of democracy

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has used his farewell address to the nation to warn of an “oligarchy” of the ultra-wealthy taking root in the country and of a “tech-industrial complex” that is infringing on Americans’ rights and the future of democracy. Speaking Wednesday from the Oval Office as he prepares to hand over power to President-elect Donald Trump, Biden spotlighted the accumulation of power and wealth in the U.S. among just a small few. The president warned Americans to be on guard for their freedoms and their institutions during a turbulent era of rapid technological and economic change. Biden also called for a constitutional amendment to end immunity for sitting presidents.… Continue Reading

Biden issues ban on offshore oil and gas drilling in most federal waters. Trump vows to undo it

Biden issues ban on offshore oil and gas drilling in most federal waters. Trump vows to undo it

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is moving to ban new offshore oil and gas drilling in most U.S. coastal waters. It’s a last-minute effort to block possible action by the incoming Trump administration to expand offshore drilling. Biden’s term expires in two weeks. He says he is using authority under federal law to protect offshore areas along the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and portions of Alaska’s Northern Bering Sea from future oil and natural gas leasing. Biden said his decision is backed by coastal communities who know that offshore drilling could cause irreversible environmental damage. President-elect Donald Trump says the decision will be reversed after he takes office Jan. 20.… Continue Reading

Biden signs a bill officially making the bald eagle the national bird of the US

Biden signs a bill officially making the bald eagle the national bird of the US

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has made it official: The bald eagle is now the national bird of the United States. Biden signed a bill into law on Tuesday to correct what had long gone unnoticed and designate the bald eagle as the national bird. The bald eagle has been a symbol of the United States for more than 240 years, appearing on the nation’s Great Seal since the design was finalized in 1782. That year, Congress also designated the bald eagle as the national emblem. But the honor of becoming the national bird had remained elusive until now.… Continue Reading

Victims and families react as Biden spares the lives of 37 federal death row inmates

Victims and families react as Biden spares the lives of 37 federal death row inmates

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) — Victims’ families and others affected by crimes that resulted in federal death row convictions are sharing a range of emotions, from relief to anger, after President Joe Biden commuted dozens of the sentences. Biden announced Monday he would convert the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The inmates include people who were convicted in slayings of police, military officers and federal prisoners and guards. Others were involved in deadly robberies and drug deals. Three inmates will remain on federal death row. Opponents of the death penalty lauded Biden for a decision they’d long sought. Supporters of Donald Trump, a vocal advocate of expanding capital punishment, criticized the move as an assault to common decency.… Continue Reading

The Trump and Biden teams insist they’re working hand in glove on foreign crises

The Trump and Biden teams insist they’re working hand in glove on foreign crises

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump doesn’t think much of Joe Biden’s foreign policy record. He frequently casts the outgoing Democratic president as a feckless leader who shredded American credibility around the world during his four-year term. But the Trump and Biden national security teams have come to an understanding that they have no choice but to work together as conflicts in Gaza, Syria and Ukraine have left a significant swath of the world on a knife’s edge. It’s fuzzy how much common ground Biden and Trump’s teams have found as they navigate crises that threaten to cause more global upheaval as Trump prepares to settle back into the White House.… Continue Reading

Hunter Biden gun case dismissed after President Joe Biden’s sweeping pardon

Hunter Biden gun case dismissed after President Joe Biden’s sweeping pardon

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge formally dismissed the gun case against Hunter Biden on Tuesday after President Joe Biden issued a sweeping pardon for his son. U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika closed the case the week before Hunter Biden was to be sentenced. He could have faced up to 25 years in prison, though as a first-time offender he likely would have gotten far less time or avoided prison entirely. Prosecutors had opposed dismissing gun case as well as separate charges filed against him in California after he failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes. A federal judge in Los Angeles hasn’t yet ruled in that case.… Continue Reading

Biden’s broken promise on pardoning his son Hunter is raising new questions about his legacy

Biden’s broken promise on pardoning his son Hunter is raising new questions about his legacy

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden’s decision to go back on his word and pardon his son Hunter wasn’t all that surprising to those who are familiar with the president’s devotion to his family. But by choosing to put his family first, the 82-year-old president has raised new questions about his legacy. Biden has held himself up as placing his respect for the American judicial system and rule of law over his own personal concerns. It was part of an effort to draw a deliberate contrast with Republican Donald Trump. Now, both his broken promise and his act of clemency are a political lightning rod.… Continue Reading
