RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Democratic state Rep. Joe John is resigning from the North Carolina General Assembly. John said in a letter posted Sunday on Facebook that he’s stepping down after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. He previously shared news of a throat cancer diagnosis last month. John was first elected to the legislature in 2016 and served four consecutive terms. He had lengthy judicial experience before his time as a state representative.
