‘Malcolm in the Middle’ star Frankie Muniz lands full-time NASCAR ride in 2025

LANDIS, N.C. (AP) — Former “Malcolm in the Middle” star Frankie Muniz is set to continue his NASCAR career with a full-time ride in the Truck Series for 2025. Muniz will make the jump from part-time racer to a full slate in No. 33 Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing. He made two starts for Reaume Brothers this season in the Truck Series. The 38-year-old actor-turned-race car driver is scheduled to compete in the Truck Series race Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Knocked out of the playoffs this time last week, Joey Logano seized on his reversal of fortune to become the first driver locked into NASCAR’s championship finale. Logano was below the cutline and eliminated from the eight-driver field when he left Charlotte Motor Speedway last Sunday. But when Alex Bowman’s car failed post-race inspection, Bowman was disqualified and Logano reinstated to the playoff field. NASCAR honors longtime AP auto racing writer Mike Harris as 2025 Squier-Hall award recipient

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Retired motorsports writer Mike Harris of The Associated Press on Sunday was named recipient of the 2025 Squier-Hall Award for NASCAR Media Excellence. Harris became the 13th winner of the award, which is displayed in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in downtown Charlotte. Harris joined the AP in 1969 and became lead motorsports reporter in 1980 — a role he held until retirement in July 2009. The Squier-Hall Award is voted upon by a panel of NASCAR and NASCAR Hall of Fame executives, active and retired media members, and former NASCAR competitors and industry leaders. It is named after NASCAR media figures Ken Squier and Barney Hall, the first two recipients of the award.… Continue Reading

Stenhouse snaps 65-race losing streak after late crash at Talladega scrambles playoff picture

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Ricky Stenhouse Jr. snapped a 65-race losing streak by winning in overtime at Talladega Superspeedway after a late crash collected more than half the field, including eight of the 12 championship contenders. Stenhouse is not in the playoffs and his victory Sunday marked the second consecutive week a driver not competing for the Cup Series title has won. The victory was the first for Stenhouse and his JTG Daugherty Racing team since he won the season-opening Daytona 500 to start 2023. Four drivers will be eliminated from the playoffs next Sunday on the hybrid road course/oval at Charlotte. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Hollywood star Keanu Reeves made his professional auto racing debut in an event in which “The Matrix” star spun out at famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Reeves spun into the grass Saturday without a collision on the exit of Turn 9 a little more than halfway through the 45-minute race. He re-entered and continued driving, signaling he was uninjured. Reeves, who is 60 years old, is competing at Indianapolis in Toyota GR Cup, a Toyota spec-racing series and a support series for this weekend’s Indy 8 Hour sports car event. KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Ross Chastain took the lead from Martin Truex Jr. on a late restart and won the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. William Byron was unable to chase down Chastain after he took the lead with 20 laps to go, though the Hendrick Motorsports driver still wound up with the best finish among the 12 to qualify for the second round of the postseason.. The retiring Truex, who was eliminated last week at Bristol, finished third in what was his last race at Kansas. NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace signs contract extension with Jordan-owned 23XI Racing

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Bubba Wallace has signed a multi-year contract extension with 23XI Racing that the team announced with a 10-second video on social media. Wallace did not make the Cup Series playoffs this season. He heads to Bristol Motor Speedway winless on the year and ranked 19th in the standings for Saturday night’s elimination race. Wallace has driven for 23XI since its 2021 inception. The team is owned by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan.… Continue Reading
