ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington’s NFL franchise used to be in the news all the time for reasons other than football. That seemed to have changed under new team ownership, but President Donald Trump’s remarks about the team name and possibly holding up a stadium deal are making waves just as training camp opens. RFK Stadium site provision included in federal spending bill, a win for the Commanders and NFL

The Washington Commanders are another step closer to the possibility of returning to the franchise’s old home in the nation’s capital. A provision to transfer the land that is the site of the old RFK Stadium from the federal government to the District of Columbia is included in Congress’ short-term spending bill, which is expected to pass. It’s a significant victory for the organization and the NFL after controlling owner Josh Harris and Commissioner Roger Goodell lobbied lawmakers on Capitol Hill on the D.C. Robert F. Commanders lose Jayden Daniels to a rib injury in a 40-7 romp over the Panthers

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — The Washington Commanders blew out the Carolina Panthers 40-7 after losing rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels to a rib injury. Concern over Daniels’ status overshadowed the lopsided victory. Marcus Mariota replaced him and threw two touchdown passes. Washington improved to 5-2 this season after not allowing Carolina to score until garbage time early in the fourth quarter. The Panthers lost their fourth in a row to fall to 1-6.
