DURHAM, N.C. (WPTF) – There’s some new developments in a February Durham shooting case.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday (March 31) announced an arrest in connection with the incident which occurred on February 24. A passenger in a car which entered the Highway 98 substation requested help for the driver and themself due to injuries from apparent gunshot wounds
Shortly after the incident, arrest warrants were obtained for 34-year-old Deonte Jemel Alston of Durham, who was hospitalized due to injuries obtained during the shooting. He has since been released and is now being held in the Durham County Detention Facility on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Possession of Firearm by Felon, AWDW Minor Present and FTA – Probation Violation.
During the investigation, a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from the vehicle. Additionally, a minor child who was present in the vehicle was placed in DSS custody. The child was not injured. The incident also led to a brief lockdown a nearby Neal Middle School.
Alston, who is being held without bond, is scheduled to be in court.
