APEX, N.C. (WPTF) – Apex police are continuing an investigation into shot fired in a townhome neighborhood Sunday morning (May 25).
There was a large police presence in the 2000 block of Sunflower Road.
According to a press release, around 12:30 a.m., a resident called 911, believing someone was trying to break into his home. The caller was unable to clearly verify his address, leading officers to check multiple nearby residences for possible signs of forced entry.
While officers were canvassing the area, they heard what they believed to be two gunshots coming from within the neighborhood. As officers worked to narrow down the location, a third gunshot was heard coming from a nearby residence. Believing there was a potential immediate threat to life, officers made their way into the home. Inside, officers located evidence indicating multiple rounds had been fired within the residence.
The investigation is ongoing, but it does not appear that anyone was trying to break in, and police believe drugs were contributing to the resident’s fear. Preliminary findings indicate the renter of the home was the only individual who discharged a firearm during the incident. The renter was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Wake County Detention Center.
A 34-year-old male and three individuals under the age of 18 were inside the residence at the time of the incident. No one inside the townhome or adjacent units was injured.
The Apex Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services responded to assist with processing the residence and continuing the investigation.
There is no ongoing threat to the public, and residents may continue to notice police activity in the area.
