RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) – Raleigh police have announced a series of charges in connection with multiple fatal accident near the Raleigh-Durham International Airport on July 4th.
According to a press release, Barry Hayes, 70, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter, 2 counts of Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, Reckless Driving to Endanger, Red Light Violation, Unsafe Tires and No Driver’s License.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. on July 4th at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue (U.S. 70) and Lumley Road, near the I-540 interchange.
A car ran a red light and struck a Fast Park shuttle, which was traveling west on Lumley Road toward RDU. The impact caused the shuttle bus to flip onto its side.
Scott and Jennifer Christofferson, died from life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. Their child, who was also a passenger, was hospitalized. The driver of the shuttle was not injured.
Scott Christofferson was an emergency department pharmacist at UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
