SILER CITY, N.C. (WPTF) – A Siler City woman faces charges ino allegations that numerous animals were abandoned without proper care.
On July 9, 2026, deputies responded to 210 Herb Beavers Road in Siler City after receiving a report that animals had been left behind at the property. Deputies learned that the property’s resident, Maggi Elizabeth Brady, 37, had reportedly left the residence in June.
According to a release, deputies learned that neighbors had discovered two pigs confined in a fenced enclosure without access to food or water and had released them to prevent further harm. Additional animals, including chickens, ducks, rabbits and a dog, were found on the property without adequate care.

Resource Center (ARC) executed a search warrant at the property and worked over the course of several days to recover as many animals as possible. ARC staff ultimately seized two turkeys, one rabbit, 22 chickens and one dog. Several other animals had wandered onto neighboring properties, where the property owners agreed to provide for their care.

The animals recovered by ARC are now available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis at the Chatham Sheriff’s Animal Resource Center, 725 Renaissance Drive in Pittsboro. The ARC is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone interested in giving one of these animals a new home is encouraged to visit the shelter.
Brady has been charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty and 26 counts of misdemeanor abandoning an animal. The warrants have not yet been served.
Brady also has outstanding warrants from a separate Chatham County Sheriff’s Office investigation. Authorities believe she is actively attempting to evade arrest.
