PITTSBORO, N.C. (WPTF) – Police in Pittsboro are announcing results from a five-month investigation into possible human trafficking at a illegal massage parlor.
According to a release from police, they have been investigating complaints since October in connection with suspicious activity at Blue Jade Spa on West Street in Pittsboro. The complainant alleged that an illegal, unlicensed massage business was operating.
Additional concerns were raised about individuals reportedly residing at the business and rarely leaving the premises. Investigators developed probable cause indicating illegal sexual activity and potential human trafficking occurring at the business.
On Friday (April 10), police executed a search warrant at the location. No arrests were made at the time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and Hope for Justice, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to combating human trafficking assisted the Pittsboro police.
