RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) – Raleigh police dealt with several incidents Saturday and early Sunday morning, amid revelers celebrating Independence Day.
Two juveniles were involving in a shooting in the Brier Creek area near I-540 around 10:30 p.m. near the Regal Brier Creek Movie theater and Target. Preliminary investigations show that the incident involved teenagers.
Two adults not involved in the incident were hurt. One was struck by gunfire, while the other was injured by flying glass after a bullet shattered a window. Both individuals are expected to recover.
Officers have taken a juvenile suspect into custody, but believe there are more suspects, according to police press release.
About the same time nearby in the Brier Creek area there was a fire reported near the Westin hotel. There were no injuries or significant damage. A scheduled fireworks show had just concluded, but it is not clear what caused the fire. The incidents, and a large crowd for fireworks, led to significant traffic issues in the area for several hours.
Early on Sunday (July 5), police were called to the Glenwood South entertainment district, and a section of the area was blocked off with police tape and there were reports of at least two injuries.
Earlier in the day on Saturday just before 5 p.m., officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 4500 block of Capital Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who had sustained life-threatening injuries and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary details indicate the incident happened during a domestic dispute between the victim and another male.
The suspect has not been located or arrested at this time.
Investigations are continuing.
