RALEIGH, N.C. (NCN News) — The first day of the new school year is coming (if it hasn’t already), and although there’s always plenty of related excitement, there can also be a lot of stress. ECU Health professionals are offering some advice for parents. Dr. Kelli Long told WNCT parents can eliminate or limit the amount of time their kids spend on their phones or games, and help them get into a good sleep routine.
“Parents have a huge impact on their kids’ mental and emotional well-being, so the more parents can be positive about those things, the better the kids will do,” she said. Dr. Long says one way to do this is, “Preparing for a week to two weeks before school starts, getting back into those routines, talking about school’s going to look like, what time we’ve gotta get up, what time we need to go to bed – those things can help kids have a smoother transition.”
Health professionals say it may be hard, especially for teenagers, but rest from electronic devices is essential.
