HOBGOOD, N.C. (NCN News) – A Halifax County woman is now facing charges of embezzling thousands of dollars from a family farm business.

During the investigation, Detective Sergeant C. Watkins went through hundreds of pages of documents to support the claim from the employer. From 1997 until 2002, approximately $426,000 was taken. Court orders were submitted for bank records and at the conclusion of the investigation, Sarah Winslow Sykes, 58, of Hobgood was charged and arrested.
Online records show that Sykes was an officer of Jack H. Winslow Farms, Inc. from 1997 until 2022. An online obituary identifies Sykes as the daughter of the late Jack Winslow, who founded the farm.
According to a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office, Sykes was served with the warrant for six counts of felony embezzlement. Sykes was given a $50,000 bond with a July 23 court date.
