DURHAM, N.C. (WPTF) – Durham police have made an arrest in connection with an April stabbing on the American Tobacco Trail.
Police say Christopher Caldwell, 64, of Durham was arrested Thursday (May 14) for the murder of Howard Reade and is being held without bond.
Around 6:30 p.m. on April 22, an adult male was found with life-threatening injuries in the 3000 block of Fayetteville Street. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
In court Thursday, a prosecutor said the stabbing stemmed from a argument over panhandling spots. Caldwell has a dozen prior convictions, with six of them being for violent offenses.
Caldwell’s is scheduled to be back in court June 4.
