APEX, N.C. (WPTF) — The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation following an incident reported at a residence in the 200 block of Alston Road near Apex Tuesday (May 19).
At approximately 11 a.m., Chatham County deputies and emergency responders were dispatched to the location after receiving a report about a possible dog attack.
Betty Alston, 85, was found deceased outside the residence. According to the preliminary investigation, a family member discovered three dogs near her body and was able to run the animals away.
The dogs have since been secured, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The circumstances surrounding Alston’s death remain under investigation, including the exact role the dogs may have played in the incident. The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting with the investigation to determine the cause of death.
