RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) – A juvenile is now in custody in connection with a loaded gun found on the campus of East Wake High School Tuesday (May 19).
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a student was on East Wake High School’s campus with a firearm. The school resource officer worked with school administration to quickly locate the student, who is a juvenile.
One loaded firearm was located on the student.
No injuries have been reported.
“We thank the staff member for reporting the incident and our school resource officers for responding quickly to the threat,” Sheriff Willie Rowe said in a press release. “The safety of our schools is a priority of this office. A weapon on campus is never a joke; it is a serious crime.”
“Weapons on campus threaten the safety of staff and students, and it is taken seriously. We ask all residents to ensure their firearms are secured properly.”
This is an ongoing investigation, and juvenile petitions are expected to be filed. Due to the student’s age, there is no additional information available at this time.
