RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) – Raleigh police are releasing more details about a fatal shooting Tuesday (June 2),
According to a release Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Summit Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. The male was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. He has now been identified as 39-year-old Emmanuel Graham.
Officers made contact with another male at the scene who had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries from an apparent assault.
Preliminary details indicate Graham and the other adult male were in a domestic relationship. Prior to the shooting, they had become involved in an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
During the altercation, Graham struck the individual with a weapon, causing the man to flee toward Summit Avenue. Graham continued to assault this individual.
A witness in the Summit Avenue area observed the incident and believed the male was in immediate danger. In response, the individual retrieved a handgun and shot Graham once. They stayed on scene and complied with officers during the investigation.
After considering the witness statements, video evidence, physical evidence, and the overall circumstances, the District Attorney’s Office decided they will not pursue criminal charges.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
