SANFORD, N.C. (WPTF) — Sanford Police are investigating the early morning shooting death of a 17-year-old male Sanford resident.
Around 1:30AM Wednesday (June 10) officers responded to Oak Branch Lane in The Oaks Apartments after receiving reports of a vehicle collision and a person being shot. When officers arrived on scene they discovered several wrecked cars and a 17-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to police post on Facebook, the investigation revealed the vehicle operated by the 17-year-old victim accelerated at a high rate of speed on Oak Branch Lane and collided with the several unoccupied parked cars, including a Lee County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, after he was shot
The 17-year-old victim was transported away from the scene for medical care but was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel while in transit. This is an active investigation.
