DURHAM, N.C. (WPTF) — The Criminal Investigations Division of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in connection with a weekend armed robbery.
On Sunday, September 6, two teens entered the business on the 3700 block of Wake Forest Highway (NC 98), grabbed items from the store, and fled. Employees attempting to stop the pair reported that one of the suspects brandished a handgun before getting into a vehicle waiting outside. Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) reviewed surveillance footage from the store and, with the assistance of DCSO’s School Resource Officers (SRO), were able to identify both suspects.
As a result, a 13-year-old male juvenile was taken into secure custody pursuant to a judge’s order following juvenile petitions for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Felony Conspiracy.
The second suspect is identified as 18-year-old Kai Morrison of Durham. Morrison was arrested without incident and transported to the Durham County Detention Center. He is also charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Felony Conspiracy and is being held without bond.
Investigators are still seeking the driver of the vehicle, and additional charges are pending.
