RALEIGH, N.C. (NCN News) — Attorney General Jeff Jackson this week secured a conviction in a felony tax fraud case out of Onslow County that will return more than $500,000 to the state of North Carolina.
“This defendant broke the law and pocketed taxpayer money,” said Jackson in a press release. “I’m grateful to our prosecutors for bringing him to justice and winning back this money for the state. My office will continue working to protect the people of North Carolina from fraud.”
Jimmy John Brinkley pleaded guilty to three counts of embezzling state property. Brinkley is the president, treasurer, and secretary of Select Staffing and Labor of NC, Inc., an Onslow County business that provides temporary staff for labor and construction companies.
The business collected withholding tax but did not pass on that money to the government in tax years 2021 and 2022, and it underreported the sales tax it collected in 2023, embezzling a total of $511,701.
