GARNER, N.C. (WPTF) – Get ready for some delays on Interstate 40 starting Wednesday (March 11) near the Wake-Johnston County line.
For the next roughly two weeks, there will be slow rolling roadblocks starting around 2:30 p.m. Pilot vehicles will be directing traffic through all eastbound lanes of I-40 just past the U.S. 70 interchange in Garner at a slow speed for about five miles.
The reason for the rolling roadblocks, according to NCDOT, is make sure eastbound lanes are clear during blasting work near Technology Drive and the N.C. 42 Interchange. The blasting work is on private property near the interstate.
The roadblocks are expected to also slow traffic on the ramps to eastbound I-40 from both N.C. 540 and Interstate 42. This will not impact westbound traffic.
The rolling roadblocks, and related traffic management procedures, are expected to last until Sunday, March 22.
Drivers are reminded to monitor highway display boards and on scene responders and consider alternate routes.
For the latest information on this situation, and other road issues, tune to FM 92.9 AM 680 WPTF for updates from the Johnson Hyundai Traffic Center on the eights throughout the afternoon starting at 3 p.m. weekdays.
