SANFORD, N.C. (WPTF) – A Lee County school board member was found dead following a fire at his home in Sanford early Wednesday morning (May 27).
According to a post on Facebook, at approximately 2:35 am members of the Fire Department and Police Department responded to 1326 Summerset Place for a reported structure fire.
Upon arrival, the Fire Department began fire suppression. While on scene Fire Department personnel located the deceased inside the residence.
Sanford Police Detectives were called to investigate the death.
The deceased was identified as Marcus Phillip Mason, 59, of 1326 Summerset Place.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
