PITTSBORO, N.C. (WPTF) – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants charging a Pittsboro man in connection with an identity theft and financial fraud investigation involving dozens of fraudulent transactions.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation began after a report was received on May 11, 2026, regarding stolen credit and debit cards that had been used to make unauthorized purchases at multiple locations over a two-week period.
The victim provided Sheriff’s Office investigators with bank statements documenting the fraudulent charges. Investigators also obtained surveillance video related to the transactions and identified the suspect as Aaron Luis Perez, 34, of 534 Deer Run in Pittsboro.
Perez has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, 21 counts of felony financial card fraud, and 20 counts of felony identity theft.
Warrants have not yet been served.
