RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) — There’s a area of Raleigh you will may want to avoid this weekend due to construction.
Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close a section of Western Boulevard and several ramps at its interchange with Interstate 440 to conduct work this weekend.
Western Boulevard will be closed at the Beltline Friday beginning at 8 p.m. and opening Monday morning at 5 a.m., weather permitting.
This means the I-440 West ramp to eastbound Western Boulevard, the on-ramp from Western Boulevard to I-440 West, the I-440 East ramp to westbound Western Boulevard, and Western Boulevard to I-440 East will also be closed during the above times.
Drivers will be detoured to use Melbourne Road and Hillsborough Street depending on your destination.
Officials encourage drivers to allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs and use caution while traveling near the work zone.
WPTF provides traffic updates weekdays from 5-9 am and 3-7 pm from the Johnson Hyundai Traffic Center
