DURHAM, N.C. (WPTF) — A juvenile is now in custody in connection with a Monday afternoon (June 8) homicide in Durham.
According to a police press release, just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Durham Police Department responded to 1126 S. Hoover Road in reference to a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located Gary Tharrington Jr., 34, of Durham, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tharrington was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Through the course of the investigation, a 14-year-old suspect was identified. Several hours after the shooting, the suspect was located and taken into custody with assistance from information provided by members of the community. Because the suspect is a juvenile, no additional identifying information will be released at this time.
This is the second shooting incident in less than 24 hours near the apartment complex on Hoover Road. A girl was shooting in the early hours of Monday morning.
