RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) – Human error is being blamed for a spill of more than 1.1 million gallons in the Brier Creek area of Raleigh Wednesday (May 13).
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality reports the spill originated in the 2800 block of John Brantley Boulevard.
Authorities say a contractor at a Raleigh-Durham International Airport construction site was working on a sewer pipe when a temporary bypass pipe was breached, leading to the discharge.
Initial estimates put the total spill at more than 1.1 million gallons.
Crews are continuing to work Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Lynn Road and Glenwood Avenue.
